EPCIS
Transparency is a critical requirement for effective competition in today's work environment.
As products transform from raw materials into finished goods and move from the source to retailers' shelves, trading partners need to stay informed at each step.
They require answers to the questions "what, where, when, and why" to meet consumer demands and regulatory requirements for accurate and detailed product information.
EPCIS, a GS1 standard, enables trading partners to share information about the physical movements and status of products as they travel throughout the supply chain, from one business to another and eventually to the end consumer. It provides the foundation for the transparency needed to improve business processes, comply with regulations, and enhance consumer and patient safety.
Additionally, the standard's flexibility and scalability support both the current and future needs of trading partners across various industries.
The EPCIS standard was officially recognized in 2015 by the ISO/IEC 19987:2015 organization.

- More about EPCIS
What is its purpose?
The objective of the EPCIS standard is to facilitate various applications and processes to create and share event data within enterprises (across departments) and with external partners. This data exchange aims to offer users a unified perspective on physical or digital objects within the business context.
Who can use it?
GS1 EPCIS is employed by companies across various global industries to monitor aspects ranging from the sourcing and freshness of food to the authentication of branded products and the safety of pharmaceuticals. It aids organizations in managing inventory, verifying product authenticity, and adhering to regulatory standards. Sectors such as retail, healthcare, manufacturing, and others leverage EPCIS to enhance their tracking and tracing capabilities throughout the entire supply chain process.

GS1 Core Vocabulary Language (CBV)
The EPCIS standard is intended to be used in conjunction with the GS1 Core Vocabulary Language (CBV) standard. CBV provides definitions that can be used to populate the data structures defined in the EPCIS standard. The use of the standardized vocabulary provided by the CBV standard is crucial for interoperability and for the provision and search of data, reducing differences in how businesses define similar concepts.
