As a manufacturer, retailer or logistics service provider, or customer, you need to know exactly where your shipments of goods are at any time, where they have come from—and when and where they are due to arrive.
Information display of a logistics unit
GS1 has set a standardised structure for logistics labels which can be used by all parties involved in the supply chain. The label is placed by the shipper and carries all the necessary information for handling and transporting a logistics unit by using free text and barcodes.
The key feature of a logistics label is the use of the SSCC, the unique number with which you can identify specific logistic units and also provide basic information for the traceability flow in the supply chain e.g. GTIN shipping unit. DLC (use by date), lot number.
The creation of a SSCC requires that you have been issued a GS1 Company Prefix.
