Alibaba invites companies to adopt the use of GTINs and GS1 barcodes for the unique identification of their products and their registration to the global network GDSN.
Alibaba Group has announced its activity in Greece and is the largest e-trading network globally, functioning on numerous platforms covering retail, wholesale and cloud services, providing consumers, traders and other participants technology and services for commercial activity through e-commerce.
According to data from March 2016 there are 423 million active buyers in the trading platform of Alibaba China. With this information in mind, Alibaba Group is interested in expanding, thus creating added value for traders and consumers who are in touch with international brands.
Alibaba Group urges brand owners and their suppliers to adopt GS1 standards, for the management of product information and GTINs for the unique identification of their products in e-commerce. It is recommended that all users be part of the Global Data Synchronization Network (GDSN) so that their products sold worldwide, through e-commerce, can share all product information online.
GDSN and GS1 standards ensure that all product information is accurate and whole for all parties involved ( suppliers and traders ). Consumers are granted access to accurate product information enhancing the brand/trade mark and improving consumer experience in today’s e-commerce industry.

I need GTINs for my products
The uniqueness and validity of GTINs and GS1 barcodes is ensured only when these are issued by GS1 national associations, which consist the only reliable source for their management globally.
GS1 Association Greece is an independent, not-for-profit organisation, member of the global Organisation. It is the only legal and authorized carrier in Greece to issue and manage GS1 prefixes 520 and 521.
