GS1 Sustainability Program

The urgent need for action on sustainability for both businesses and society has never been greater. Today, GS1's key sectors are leading a global movement toward sustainable practices. The GS1 Sustainability Program has been established to support its members on this journey, as sustainability evolves from isolated, voluntary efforts into a data-driven process that is fully integrated into core business operations.

Consumer values have shifted significantly, showing a strong preference for sustainable products. People now demand transparency about product origin, production methods, recyclable packaging, and environmental impact. Governments around the world are legislating to ensure brands provide detailed sustainability information, reflecting a growing global trend toward accountability. In response, brands are prioritizing sustainability, working to reduce their environmental footprint while adapting to evolving regulations. Demonstrating commitment to sustainability across the entire supply chain is no longer optional it is essential.

This movement toward sustainability is not a passing trend, but a strategic imperative shaped by consumer expectations and the demands of business partners. With strict requirements now extending across the full product lifecycle from sourcing to end-of-life and recycling GS1 continues to play an active role in this transformation. We are dedicated to supporting our members as they face emerging challenges and to collaborating on shaping the future of sustainability.
