GS1 Logistics Label

Label Dimensions

Standard paper sizes like A5 or A6 are commonly recommended for labels, and they are widely adopted by most companies. An A5 label, measuring 148mm x 210mm, offers sufficient space to include extra information. However, companies have flexibility to use any label size as required, as the GS1 General Specifications do not mandate a specific standard size.

Label Placement

The logistics label can be applied to any logistics unit, though it's typically used on pallets. Two labels must be affixed to adjacent sides.

For pallets, labels should be positioned with barcodes placed between 400mm and 800mm from the pallet base (including the support base), and not less than 50mm from the vertical edge.

Label layout

The label has three sections that allow companies to provide their own information about the logistics unit as well as data that is defined by the GS1 System.

The label has three sections as explained below:

Top section: Company name, logo or any other information

Middle section: The SSCC for the logistics unit and any extra information that may be defined using the AI standards. This is all shown in a human readable form.

Lower section: GS1-128 bar codes with the encoded data shown beneath each bar code.

The SSCC should always be shown in the lowest bar code on the label
There is no limit to the number of GS1-128 bar codes that can be used on a GS1 label.
