GLOBALG.A.P. Certification
Traceability via GLOBALG.A.P. certification utilizing the GLN as search key
GLOBALG.A.P. was developed by FoodPLUS GmbH in Cologne, Germany with the cooperation of producers, retailers and interested parties of the food industry. These solutions involve a number of standards for safe, social and environmentally responsible agricultural practices. GLOBALG.A.P. uses many standards, the one widely used is the Integrated Farm Assurance (IFA), suitable for fruits and vegetables, aquaculture, floriculture, livestock and more. This standard is the foundation of the GGN label which is a cross-category consumer label that stands for certified, responsible farming and transparency.
GLOBALG.A.P database is an online platform that stores and connects evaluation and certification data for over 200.000 producers in more than 135 countries, this marks the GLOBALG.A.P. certification system as one of the most reliable on the market regarding food safety and sustainability. Over 155 independent and accredited third-party certification bodies around the world use it for the registration and management of the certification status of each registered producer.
Trustworthy information on certification status connected to traceability data in the food chain is the key for proper quality management, whilst innovative and flexible GLOBALG.A.P. IT solutions are effectively connected with the existing information systems for producers, marketing organisations, wholesalers and retailers.

GLN application for GLOBALG.A.P. certification process
The GLOBALG.A.P. number (GGN) is a 13-digit number that identifies uniquely each producer and individual member of a group of producers in the GLOBALG.A.P. database. GGNs can be entered into the search system to find a farm profile for the producer and product information. The GGN coincides with GS1 GLN (Global Location Number), issued solely by GS1 Organisation and any national member organisations throughout the world.
Validation and immediate verification
With the GLOBALG.A.P. database you can check the validity of a GLOBALG.A.P. certificate, which is used daily by retailers and merchants. A certificate that cannot be found on the publicly available database is immediately considered invalid. The database offers host producer registration data and link to traceability data in supply chains.
Already possess a GLN and want to use it for certification?
Check if it is registered and active in Verified by GS1.
What is a GLN?

The Global Location Number is used like a fingerprint for national and global business transactions.

With the GLN companies and their departments, such as production sites or warehouses, can be identified in a unique way. It consists of 13 digits and is the key to storing information of a company in data bases.

For the GLOBALG.A.P. certification the GLN identifies uniquely each producer and single member of a producer team in the GLOBALG.A. P database.
When is a GLN valid?
Verified by GS1
GS1 Company Prefixes and GLNs are issued uniquely by GS1 Global office and national GS1 offices around the world, the sole authoritative source of issuing and managing GS1 barcodes.
GLNs are registered in Verified by GS1 along with the details of the location so to make possible the search and confirmation of validity by anyone in the world.
GLN Registry
GS1 Association Greece keeps a GLN Registry also providing the geodetic coordinates so to facilitate the searches with multiple criteria and to be able to include more information in case it is required for traceability in the supply chain, certification by competent bodies and more.
I need a GLN
A GLN is a unique 13-digit number.
Once issued a GS1 Company Prefix, the first available barcode is assigned as the company’s main GLN, connecting it to the legal entity and headquarters.
If you already possess a GS1 Company Prefix and need a new GLN you can bind the next available barcode directly through the Member Area by choosing Management/ Member Details/ Location Number/ Add.
If there is no need of product codification and you are only in need of location codification, then you may be assigned one or multiple single GLNs directly from GS1 Association Greece.
