GS1 collaboration with the National Organization for Medicines

GS1 collaboration with the National Organization for Medicines for pharmaceutical product labelling and the ‘EOF Code.

The use of barcodes is particularly widespread in the healthcare sector. However, many countries use GS1 standards based on their national specifications. In Greece, the GS1 system is used in conjunction with encoding by the National Organization for Medicines (EOF).

The GS1 code for medicines circulating in Greece consists of 13 digits, starting with the prefix 280 followed by a 9-digit code assigned by EOF (Greek National Organization for Medicines), and ending with a check digit calculated based on the GS1 system algorithm. The symbol used for marking the authenticity seal of the medicine is the EAN-13.
